How can you ensure your kitchen is the perfect place for entertaining? Whether it’s the dinner party you’ve been meaning to host for months, or a place for the family to relax, a bespoke kitchen can do it all if you follow these handy tips.
The best way to encourage people to gather in the kitchen is to ensure there is ample seating. If you’ve got the space, combining the kitchen and dining area can provide an easy way to bring the dinner party and the cooking together by providing a sociable space for everyone. It is also great way to keep the chefs involved in the conversation. If you don’t have the space for a full dining table, a breakfast bar can be a useful alternative.
We love this contemporary style with seating around the kitchen island as there is separate, taller worktop for the seating area, keeping guest’s drinks out of the way of your cooking space. It is also a useful option if you don’t want to compromise on the height of your worktops, as they often need to be slightly taller than normal to make a comfortable bar area.
As with family members, guests will naturally gravitate to light rooms with an inviting atmosphere. The best way to achieve this is by large glass doors opening out into the garden. Not only will this fill the room with natural light, but it provides a great way to expand the space outside in the warmer months. Understandably, this isn’t always possible, but there are many other ways to create a welcoming atmosphere. White cabinets and walls create the illusion of more space and brighten up the room given a clean, luxurious feel to the room. Using clever lighting can also help to emphasise the entertaining space. Spotlights are perfect for large spaces, but opt for a large feature light above the breakfast bar or dining table to encourage people to gather there.
We hope this has given you some inspiration about designing a sociable kitchen space. Please give us a call on 01628 632033 or pop into our Maidenhead showroom to speak to our expert kitchen designers about how these tips can work for you.

With the summer sun blistering outside, the last thing you want to do is turn on a hot oven in a stuffy kitchen and start prepping. We’ve come up with a couple of tips to ensure you can enjoy your cooking experience in a cool environment, possibly whilst drinking a nice cold glass of wine. Relax this summer, even when prepping the children’s dinner!
Use countertop appliances
Get adventurous and start planning meals that avoid using your usual range oven. How about using your slow cooker, convection oven, microwave, toastie makers and grills to make an old and easy favourite. Reducing the use of your main oven will keep your kitchen so much cooler, so embrace countertop appliances, or why not opt for salads and meals that involve no cooking altogether?
Improve your main appliances
Old ovens, dishwashers and microwaves will let more heat into your kitchen, whilst also wasting energy and utility money. We can help you choose new appliances for your kitchen that are innovative, convenient and energy-saving (and they look great too!).
